El ciclo de Krebs (también llamado ciclo del ácido cítrico o ciclo de los ácidos tricarboxílicos) es una ruta metabólica, es decir, una sucesión de reacciones químicas, que forma parte de la respiración celular en todas las células aeróbicas. En células eucariotas se realiza en la mitocondria. En las procariotas, el ciclo de Krebs se realiza en el citoplasma, específicamente en el citosol.
En organismos aeróbicos, el ciclo de Krebs es parte de la vía catabólica que realiza la oxidación de glúcidos, ácidos grasos y aminoácidos hasta producir CO2, liberando energía en forma utilizable (poder reductor y GTP).
El metabolismo oxidativo de glúcidos, grasas y proteínas frecuentemente se divide en tres etapas, de las cuales, el ciclo de Krebs supone la segunda. En la primera etapa, los carbonos de estas macromoléculas dan lugar a moléculas de acetil-CoA de dos carbonos, e incluye las vías catabólicas de aminoácidos (p. ej. desaminación oxidativa), la beta oxidación de ácidos grasos y la glucólisis. La tercera etapa es la fosforilación oxidativa, en la cual el poder reductor (NADH y FADH2) generado se emplea para la síntesis de ATP según la teoría del acomplamiento quimiosmótico.
El ciclo de Krebs también proporciona precursores para muchas biomoléculas, como ciertos aminoácidos. Por ello se considera una vía anfibólica, es decir, catabólica y anabólica al mismo tiempo.

La profesión se puede definir como ʺla actividad personal, puesta de una manera estable y honrada al servicio de los demás y en beneficio propio, a impulsos de la propia vocación y con la dignidad que corresponde a la persona humanaʺ. En un sentido estricto esta palabra designa solamente las carreras universitarias. En sentido amplio, abarca también los oficios y trabajos permanentes y remunerados, aunque no requieran un título universitario. En virtud de su profesión, el sujeto ocupa una situación que le confiere deberes y derechos especiales, como se verá: • La Vocación. La elección de la profesión debe ser completamente libre. La vocación debe entenderse como la disposición que hace al sujeto especialmente apto para una determinada actividad profesional. Quien elige de acuerdo a su propia vocación tiene garantizada ya la mitad de su éxito en su trabajo. • Finalidad de la Profesión. La finalidad del trabajo profesional es el bien común. La capacitación que se requiere para ejercer este trabajo, está siempre orientada a un mejor rendimiento dentro de las actividades especializadas para el beneficio de la sociedad.

En la fermentación del ácido láctico, el ácido pirúvico de la glicólisis es reducido a ácido láctico por el NADH, el cual es oxidado a NAD+. Esto ocurre comúnmente en las células musculares. La fermentación del ácido láctico permite a la glicólisis continuar y asegurando que el NADH es regresado a su estado oxidado (NAD+).

La secuencia de reacciones que constituyen la glucólisis puede dividirse en 3 partes. En la primera parte la glucosa es convertida en dos moléculas de gliceraldehído trifosfato (una molécula con tres átomos de carbono). Esta parte requiere invertir energía: la hidrólisis del ATP es la que provee los dos fosfatos que se necesitan. En la segunda parte el grupo aldehído de cada molécula de gliceraldehído trifosfato se oxida formando ácido carboxílico y la energía liberada en cada una de estas reacciones se acopla a la de la fosforilación de ADP para formar ATP. En la última parte, los dos fosfatos que habían sido usados para formar las dos moléculas de gliceraldehído trifosfato son transferidos al ADP para formar ATP. Por lo tanto, como resultado neto de la glucólisis se obtiene una ganancia neta de dos moléculas de ATP por cada molécula de glucosa.

METABOLISMO DE ÁCIDOS GRASOS
 Los ácidos grasos tienen 3 funciones en la célula:
     -Estructural (ácidos grasos que forman las membranas: fosfolípidos, glucolípidos...).
     -Mensajeros secundarios (1,2-DAG tiene características de señalización celular).
     -Energética (son la mayor reserva de energía en los animales).
En los seres vivos pueden haber ácidos grasos saturados o insaturados. Los dobles enlaces tienen casi siempre estereoquímica cis. La mayoría de ácidos grasos naturales tienen un número par de carbonos.
A mayor número de carbonos, más sólida es la molécula del ácido graso. A partir de 16-18 C, una molécula es sólida a temperatura ambiente. Conforme más dobles enlaces, más fluida (más líquida es).
Una membrana rica en ácidos grasos insaturados es menos fluida.
Los ácidos grasos son más ricos en energía que el glucógeno, porque los ácidos grasos son moléculas más reducidas que la glucosa y su oxidación completa a CO2 da más energía. La combustión de 1 gr de grasa produce más calorías (9 Kcal) que 1 gr de azúcar (4 Kcal).
El glucógeno se almacena acumulando mucha agua (hay el triple de H2O que de glucógeno). Los ácidos grasos se acumulan como triglicéridos de forma prácticamente anhidra (son muy hidrofóbicos). La eficiencia de almacenar energía en forma de ácido graso es 5 o 6 veces más eficiente que en forma de glucógeno.
Los dobles enlaces tienen la partícula -en-. Los dobles enlaces se indican mediante una Dx => 1er C donde se establece el doble enlace. La nomenclatura común indica de donde proviene o los tejidos en los que se puede encontrar.

Apuntes Médicos, un wiki muy ilustrativo que nos hace conocer todo lo concerniente a temas Torácicos y Cardiovasculares, desmembrando cada uno de ellos haciéndonos conocer sus conceptos y definiciones. Medical Wikis, escrito por el Dr. Bertalan Mesko en Marzo del 2007, nos dice sobre su apreciación respecto al  papel importante que tendrá los Wikis médicos en la educación de la medicina, indicándonos así que tiene que mejorar mucho en lo que es el número de contribuyentes, las directrices de diseño, etc.

Revista Electrónica de Medicina Intensiva  - REMI, en esta página nos hace referencia sobre la definición de lo que es un Wiki, que significa “rápido” utilizado por primera vez en 1995 por Ward Cunnighanm; pero en referencia a nuestro tema de entorno médico, podemos describir que este sitio web nos hace referencia a ejemplos de wikis en temas médicos y científico en general, por ejemplo Scholarpedia, que es un sitio Web que es un sitio web que permite la publicación de artículos incluyendo el peer review. Es una wiki que abarca desde las matemáticas a la física y tiene un bien constituido comité editorial. Dentro de Wikipedia, existe un hilo sobre medicina intensiva; Ganfyd es una wiki médica, en inglés Otra wiki médica de gran aceptación y calidad es WikiMD o la excelente wiki sobre radiología Radiopaedia. Todo esto nos hace saber que en la actualidad los Wikis son una buena herramienta para crear y compartir conocimientos.
